Mud earth was created after a passionate sustainability project which involved creating a complete interior space over 2 floors with materials gathered from the earth.

Unable to find builders in the North East who understood and could install what we wanted to create, we started from scratch with bags of clay, sand, lime and water, which was very different to other building and design projects we had previously worked on.

Using our 30 year experience of building practises, a lot of mud and lots of hand made raw earth paint, we developed a bespoke system of interior design and natural building which can wrap you in nature as soon as you walk through the door.

Once people experienced how natural materials can transform your living space into something that not only looks visually beautiful but also feels beautiful, we have been inundated with requests to create earthen living and work spaces for all kinds of environments.

Projects completed so far have included whole houses to feature walls, bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms and hallways, along with commercial bars, cafes and restaurants. We are now very excited to be able to bring our own raw earth paint collection to the system so that this ancient but hugely applicable building technique can be created in more homes and working spaces in the North East of England.
